Broadside
Hold on the back line of the near front leg, a third of the way up the body. A blesbuck's vital area is roughly a hand span across. Aim for its centre, not the edge.
Quartering and other angles
Quartering away, aim for the far front leg. Blesbuck herds usually face into the wind while grazing, so walk-and-stalk hunters see a lot of frontal and quartering-to animals. Wait for a clean quarter or broadside rather than shooting into the brisket.
Do not
Do not shoot into a tightly bunched herd, and do not hold on the white blaze for a head shot. Shots at the face are a common cause of wounded animals.
Where they live and the typical miss
Found on South Africa's highveld grasslands. The typical miss is low in front, under the chest, caused by misjudging range across flat grass with no reference points.
Culling and meat
Many blesbuck are shot for meat and management. A clean shot behind the shoulder saves the backstraps and shoulders and avoids the paunch.
